James Butler Ardoin, Sr. was born on March 10, 1928 in Nome, Texas and passed away on August 4, 2018 while in the comfort of his loving family. James grew up in Port Arthur, Texas. Surrounded by a large family, he had great ambition and served as a Merchant Seaman, during his career, he was enlisted and served in the United States Coast Guard – Merchant Marine, to go into many areas to search for explosive devices and other missions. His career as a Merchant Seaman lasted for over 40 years. During this time, he traveled the world extensively and entertained his family with stories about adventures at sea and life in foreign lands. His love for the sea paled in comparison to the love he had for his wife, Jo Ann Jubert, whom he married on December 1, 1951. To this matrimony, they had a daughter and 2 sons. James and Jo Ann moved their family to the Houston-area where they resided for almost 60 years. “J.B.” as he was known to many, was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and served as a proud member of the Knights of Columbus (Council 803) in the 3rd Degree. Always one to give of his time, James coached his son’s youth baseball and soccer teams. On any given Friday night, J.B. could be found volunteering at the KC Hall fish fry. James was an avid gardener. His vegetable garden was the envy of the neighborhood and so was his meticulously manicured lawn. These hobbies were rivaled by his enjoyment of boating, fishing, and tournament bowling. Of all the things James enjoyed, nothing compared to the joy he felt in spending time with his family. He is proceeded in death by his parents; Louise Hilstock and Paul Ardoin, Jr., brothers; Louis and Fred Provost, sister; Dorothy Ardoin Johnson, and grandson; Aaron Paul Ardoin. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jo Ann Ardoin; son and daughter-in-law; James Butler Ardoin, Jr., and wife, Priscilla, daughter and son-in-law; Linda Marie Ardoin and husband, Larry, son and daughter-in-law, Rodney Marcel Ardoin and wife, Cherise;. Grandchildren; Candace Marie Blue, and husband, Ramel, Evan James Ardoin and wife, Heather, Adrian Kelli Mosley and husband, Jay, Rodney Marcel Ardoin, Jr., Kailey Tamya Ardoin. Great Grandchildren; Paige Marie Blue, Gabrielle Marie Blue, Donovan Mosley, Felix Aaron Ardoin, and Margot Amelia Ardoin. Sister; Clara Jean Provost. The family will be receiving friends and relatives for a visitation at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 11, at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 S. Kirkwood, Stafford, Texas 77477. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the Earthman Southwest Chapel. Entombment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in the Oaks Mausoleum. The Ardoin family would like to thank Larry Moten and Helen Charles for the love and care of James during his extended illness.

I am grateful to Cousin JB for being a role model as a family man. I always enjoyed conversing with him as he always had an encouraging and wise message to share. I remember that during my college days years ago, Cousin JB and JoAnn welcomed me into their home on many weekends, which was a wonderful getaway from the rigors of engineering school. I am also grateful for the advice he gave to my son, who is now a Merchant Seaman. Of course, Cousin JB had many words of wisdom based on his career as a Merchant Seaman himself. Amanda and I are thankful and blessed that Cousin JB was a part of our lives and we wish the Ardoin family God’s peace and comfort.

Cousin James B. Ardoin, you're definitely going to be missed. The fact that I got a chance to spend time with you and Cousin Jo Ann, after later learning about our close kinship, is what really matters.
My fondest memory of you is when you told me how well you knew my daddy (Jessie Joubert) and how you two used to hang tight and have much fun! Another fond memory of you is when you told me how you met my cousin Jo Ann Jubert and that you two lived next door to each other.
Rest in the bosom of Abraham until we all have a chance to meet again.
