He was born on March 15, 1949, in Freeport, Texas to the late James William Brownson Sr. and Helen Gameson Brownson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Sybil Davenport Brownson.
James leaves behind his two sons, James Scott and his wife Julie and Jeffrey Wayne and his wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Sydney, Hailey, Blake, and Jacob; bonus grandchildren, Wiley and Shaylee; twin brother, Gerald and his wife Delanie; sister, Lynnda and her husband Thomas; brother, Daniel and his wife Debbie; his cherished companion, Michael Ann Gresham Chaplin, along with numerous extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
James graduated from Sweeny High School in 1967 and attended Wharton County Junior College and the University of Houston where he acquired two associate degrees. He proudly served in the United States Army as a paratrooper from March 1971 to January 1977 and obtained the rank of Sergeant, an experience that gave him strength and resilience. He spent his career as a dedicated computer aided draftsman and structural engineer and generously gave his time as a Scoutmaster, but what brought him the most joy was simply being "PawPaw."
James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the ranch. Friends meant a great deal to him, and he greatly valued the time he spent with them playing games and going to dinners. James was a man of faith whose warm smile and kind spirit touched everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by all.
