

James Henry Lacy of Fresno, TX passed away on September 18, 2025. He was born on January 23, 1946 in Urbana, TX to Jesse Holcomb and Pauline Teel. At 3 months of age, he was adopted by Monroe and Emily Lacy and moved to Beaumont, TX, where he grew up. He graduated from Charlton-Pollard High School in Beaumont, a proud member of the class of 1963. He continued his education at Lamar University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing. He also served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He moved to Houston, Texas with his young family in 1973 where he worked for Corporate America for 18 years. He landed his dream job at the Houston Area Urban League in 1991 and retired from there after 22 years. He often expressed the wish that he had spent his entire career with HAUL.
James was preceded in death by his parents, five of his siblings: Wyomia Cherry, Margie Bean, Dorothy Gilder, Luther (LC) Holcomb and Emma Greer. He is survived by his wife, Carla Lacy, his daughters, Melanie and Millicent Lacy (Myra) , his step-son, Darin Jennings, his sister, Catherine (Henry) Deason and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
James loved cooking and “tweaking” spice mixes, sharing recipes, barbecuing, traveling (especially cruising) and golfing. He was a member of Thompson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Blueridge Lions Club, Missouri City NAACP and The Center for the Healing of Racism.
