In the year of our Lord and Savior 1949, a baby boy was born to the union of Elbert and Mary Jane West, they named him Jerry Jerome. He invited Christ into his life at The House of Prayer Worship Center.
Jerry had a great sense of humor and a cheerful attitude. He looked for the positive in every situation. Jerry was very family oriented. He was an excellent example to follow and had a keen ability to be financially savvy. He was a model for the type of patriarch that every young man should strive to emulate.
Jerry grew up in the Kashmere Gardens community and graduated from Kashmere Junior Senior High School. Jerry was a dedicated and committed worker! He began his entrepreneurship at the age of 12 doing odd jobs and saving his money. Jerry was determined to stamp out a successful career path, he began employment at MD Anderson Cancer Center where he remained until retirement.
Jerry was diligent in his responsibilities and excelled to the level of supervising manager of the entire Pride hospital service. During his tenure, MD Anderson received numerous awards for cleanliness. Jerry met and married his loving wife of over 30 years Graciela, and together they built a loving team which included seven children. He loved his children and adored his grandchildren. On July 19, 2022, he departed this life at Memorial Hermann Hospital, Texas Medical Center, headed to his heavenly home.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Mary Jane West; sisters, Beverly Gray, Delores Lister, Mary Harris, and Shirley Gray; brothers, Elbert West, Jr. and Elder Joseph West, Sr. He leaves to celebrate his life and legacy a beloved wife, Graciela West; sons, Jerry West, Jr. (Catina) and Jason West, Patrice Walton, Gilberto Garza (Daisy), Susana DeLeon (Fidel), Sylvia DeLeon (David), Kenya Whitley, Graciela Love (Chapel), Guadalupe Garza, Jr. (Alba). Grandchildren: Ashley Torres (Rene), Amanda Capistran, David DeLeon, Jr., Alexis DeLeon, Elaine Broussard (Kain), Matthew Aguilar, Amber Garza, Jorge A. Capistran, Calina West, Chapel Love IV, Fidel DeLeon II, Isaiah DeLeon, and Gia Garza. Great-grandchildren: Rene Torres Jr., Adrian Torres, and Aayden Portillo. Sisters: Gwendolyn Hunter, Brenda Pugh, (Micheal) and Wanda Nathan, brothers Phillip West, (Dorothy) and Marcus West, and an entourage of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
