

JoAnna Rumore Cavin of Houston Texas passed away on March 13, 2024. She was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston on January 12, 1940 to Sam Rumore and Josephine Palisi Rumore. She graduated from St. Agnes Academy in 1958. She married George Arrick on September 17, 1961. She had two daughters – Deborah and Georganna. Later she married Charlie Cavin. Her career was in the insurance business. She worked for as an insurance agent and eventually up to vice-president of sales for maritime insurance agencies.
JoAnna attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was active in the choir. She loved local outings with the Savvy Seniors and Maverick groups. She loved playing Mexican Train dominoes with her senior groups and her family. She was very proud of her Sicilian/Italian ancestry, which meant a great deal to her. She was a long-time member of the Daughters of Italian Heritage. JoAnna helped roll a “million” meatballs to be sold at their booth at the annual Houston Italian Festival. She also loved square dancing and was active in the North Stars Singles Square Dance Club.
JoAnna is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Josephine Rumore, her daughter Georganna Owens and cousins Margie DiPuma and Virginia DeForke. She is survived by her sister Dianna Barbato; her daughter Deborah Schulz (Wes); grandchildren Alan Dooley, Ashley Owens, Faith Ramirez (Rudy), and Renee Palisi; great-grandchildren Damien Dooley and Sylas Herrera; nieces and nephews Marcella Truesdale (Michael), Della Barbato, JB Rogers, Junior Rogers; and cousin Connie Nagle and also other relative and dear friends.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the chapel at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 South Kirkwood Road in Stafford.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 20 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 8200 Roos Road in Houston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association, 10060 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77054 or to the non-profit organization, her daughter works for: The Women’s Pregnancy Center of Matagorda County, P.O. Box 986, Bay City, TX 77414.
