Jose (Joe) Carrizales Medina Jr. entered through the gates of heaven on Friday, September 13, 2019. Although Joe's battle with pancreatic cancer was short, it was one with great optimism and no pain. Joe passed away peacefully in his sleep at home, with his beloved dog, Noel Rene, by his side.
Joe was born and raised in Seguin, Texas on December 19, 1947 to Jose and Josefa (Chepa) Medina. He attended Seguin High School and Southwest Texas University.
Joe was in the United States Air Force from 1969-1972. Joe became squad leader during basic training and went on to serve in Thailand. He was one of the youngest men to reach staff sergeant.
After military life, Joe found a successful career with Southwestern Bell and was the Director of Operations and Public Communications until his retirement in 2004.
Joe followed in his fathers’ footsteps and had a deep love for the game of golf. He and his wife Sandy were able to create a beautiful life in a golfing community where Joe actively golfed with close friends.
This love of golf lead him to his retirement career starting with the city of Houston in 2012, managing a golf course, and upon the closure of the course, he went on to work for Sharpstown golf course until the time of passing. He often stated he would work until he no longer could. He truly loved his job and he did just that.
Joe was a recovering alcoholic, celebrating 8 years of sobriety in February 2019. He loved to golf, joke around and make those around him smile and laugh. He enjoyed spending time with his wife thrifting, enjoying a favorite restaurant, having a spontaneous trip to a casino or simply just lounging in his favorite chair with his dogs and family. He was a wonderful “Popo/Pawpaw” to his 6 grandchildren. We are grateful for the many memories we have and know that his legacy will continue through them.
Joe leaves behind his loving wife of 17 years, Sandra (Sandy) Medina of Missouri City, Texas; Dogs, Noel Rene and Buddy G; Daughter Kim Gibson and husband John of Houston, Texas; Son, Jeff Medina and wife Juliet Behrens of Austin, Texas; Son, Jon Medina and husband Jeremy Madron of Salt Lake City, Utah; Daughter, Jessica Vasquez and husband James of Buda, Texas.
