Born September 12, 1924 in Gladewater, TX, Johnnie Mae (Hawkins) Carney grew up in East Texas, eventually moving to Houston, TX. In 1948, while working for oil “wildcatter” Glenn McCarthy, Johnnie met and married the love of her life, Glenn’s Chief Pilot Linton (Lin) B. Carney, Jr. A woman of deep faith and religious fervor, Johnnie had a special devotion to Our Lady of LaSalette . She often attended daily Mass and Bible Study groups whenever possible until her physical ailments prevented her participation.
Johnnie is survived by her half-sister: Bonnie Snow; son: Lynn E. Carney, and wife, Anne; step-son: Fred G. Carney, and wife, Nancy; granddaughter: Alicia Marie Cooley; step-granddaughter: Cheryl Carney; great-granddaughter: Natalie Marie Ledesma, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Johnnie is preceded in death by her husband: Linton B. Carney, Jr.; parents: John E. Hawkins and Bonny Eloise Snow, half-brother: James (Buddy) McKay, and half-sister: Georgia Kramp.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 S. Kirkwood Rd., Stafford, TX 77477, with a Rosary and Funeral Vigil to begin at 7:00 p.m. on August 30, 2012. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1510 Fifth Street, Missouri City, TX 77489 at 11:00 a.m. on August 31, 2012, followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Rite of Committal and interment will be at Forest Park the Woodlands Cemetery, 18000 Interstate 45 South, The Woodlands, TX 77384 at 3:00 p.m.
