

Mr. Amaya was born on August 25, 1936, in Brownsville, Texas to Jose Maria Amaya, Sr. and Leonor Doria Amaya.
Our father was a hardworking man, he worked for many years as a welder and owner of Landscaping Company, and he retired at an early age due to health issues. He loved the outdoors such as hunting and fishing with his sons along with dancing and enjoyed spending time with family. He was a person of great character, a sense of humor like no other and a big imagination of telling stories, "Never a Dull Moment'. For the last five years, he lived in Missouri City with his sons, living his life to the fullest.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Maria Amava, Sr. and Leonor Doria Amaya, his wife; Janie Amaya; his brother, Reynaldo Doria; his sister, Maria Minerva Amaya. He is survived by two brothers, Hector Amaya, Sr., and Arnold Amaya; his sister, Maria Alicia Lucio; his four sons, Joe Amaya III and his wife Dominga, Oscar Amaya, Henry Martinez and his wife Karen, Robert Martinez; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 23 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 South Kirkwood Road in Stafford, with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 p.m.
The Rite of Committal will be held on Friday, March 24 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Cemetery, 1727 St. Andrew Street in Gonzales.
