I am so sad to hear about the passing of Karen.  We worked together at Towers Watson and she quickly became a close friend during my time there.  Despite the fact that I was the age of her kids, she never treated me like anything but a peer.  After I left TW, we would still periodically email or meet up, just to catch up.  I recently thought it had been a while since we communicated and wanted to reach out.  I went on Facebook and realized this horribly sad news.  If there is anything I learned about Karen, it was that she LOVED her family.  My thoughts are with every family member as you near the one year mark and I will forever miss Karen.  

My sister and I had one thing in common....a pair of purple bell bottom Jean's. She wore them as often as she could get away with for at least 2 years in high school. Then it was my turn to wear them more often than was socially acceptable. We walked the bottoms off of those Jean's. They were so very soft and comfortable. She often reminded me to whom those treasured pants really belonged. But after 4 years or so of continual wear, the seams and the zipper were irreparably shot. 
Certainly the pants were a "thing." What Karen and I shared as sisters, about 3 years apart is being revealed in these days as I sort through the profound emptiness that I now carry.  On the other hand I've never felt as close to her as I have over the past 2 months or so. 
I pray for our brothers and our sister and for Wendy.  That we will all have what we need to journey through this time. And my favorite brother-in-law Alan and their terrific sons, blood of my blood. I love you all.

Karen became a part of my life when my sister, Wendy, began inviting Karen, Alan, and the boys, when they were young, to our family gatherings.  As time went by, the frequency of our get-togethers increased as our families grew closer.  Many happy memories of good food, good company, and hours of fun playing card games.  Karen’s smile, sense of humor, warmth, and kindness brought out the best in all of us.  She seemed to navigate life with calm, grace, and good humor.  I’m grateful to have known her.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, your sons and grandchildren and all of the  other family members during this great loss of Mrs Karen.  I am deeply saddened by your loss  Alan. Karen was a wonderful woman and  always very kind.  I always enjoyed seeing her when you were both at our events for work.  May Karen  Rest In Peace! God’s Continued Love and Blessings To You All! My sincerest condolences to Karen's family.  Karen was so well liked and loved at WTW.  While I mostly worked from home, any time I came in I always sat near Karen and she greeted me with her incredibly friendly smile.  We would always spend at least a few minutes catching up with one another, and we had an additional special connection due to our both having children in the military.  I will miss Karen a great deal, as her warm and friendly nature, her unerringly positive attitude, her sense of humor, and her constant willingness to help are incredibly positive attributes which deserve to be celebrated.  May the Lord welcome her home with open arms.

In 1994, a coworker extended her hand in friendship when I was in a very dark place.  She invited me to join her family for a Memorial Day cookout. I would have preferred to stay in bed with my head under the covers, but, with encouragement from my sister, I went. It wasn’t long before Karen and I were fast friends, I was Aunt Wendy to her sweet boys and Wife #2 to her wonderful husband. 

Karen and I had a rare and special friendship that changed my life. This is a heartbreaking time, but I will wrap myself in the wonderful memories we shared, like one of her world-famous hugs.

I’m sending my love and hugs to Alan, Daniel, Steven, Jacob and the entire Clark-Haas Clan - my second family.  


Karen and I have worked together from "Watson Wyatt" days.  Her sweet and helping nature is what comes to my mind first.  Whenever we needed something done efficiently and correctly, she was the first one we all lined up to go to. Whether it is arranging a meeting, shower or any type of celebration, we always counted on her. Chatting with her about her family and trips to TN always made her face glow.  In spite of her working schedule, her commitment to take care of her family is her specialty.  
She will be missed dearly by all her work associates.
