

Larry Wayne Thompson Sr., a hard-working and honest man, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on October 7, 2025, at the age of 75. Larry was a resident of Stafford, Texas, where he lived a life full of love and dedication to his family and community.
Larry was born on November 3, 1949 in Arkansas before moving to Alice, Texas at the age of one where he spent his childhood and met lifelong friends Rick Stacy and Ross Dillard. Larry graduated from William Adams High School in Alice, Texas. His early commitment to service was evident as he joined the Army Reserve while still in high school, where he served for six years. His career was marked by 15 years of dedicated work at Armco Steel, followed by a successful tenure in the auto salvage industry until his retirement. Larry's remarkable achievement of driving two million miles in Houston traffic was a testament to his perseverance and dedication.
Larry's personal life was rich with love and companionship. He was first married to Deborah Hendrick from 1970 to 1980. On Valentine's Day 1981, he danced his way into the heart of the love of his life, Charlotte. They were inseparable from that night on and they were married on October 24, 1981. Together, they enjoyed 44 wonderful years of marriage full of country and western dancing sometimes all night ending up at Galveston beach to watch the sunrise.
A man of varied interests, when he wasn’t cutting a rug with his bride, Larry loved fishing, hunting, and cutting wood for his fireplace and fire pit. He was often found sitting around the campfire, telling stories as the self-proclaimed tong master of the fire pit, with everyone else as junior tong apprentices. His trusted puppy, Taz, was his constant companion on all his adventures. Larry also cherished arm wrestling with his grandchildren, creating fond memories for them.
Larry's personal qualities left a lasting legacy. He loved his family deeply and made everyone feel like part of it, often giving them nicknames. To know Larry was to love him. An animal lover at heart, he enjoyed watching birds and squirrels, often singing to them. He was also a self-proclaimed karaoke singer, bringing joy and laughter to those around him.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Verna Claudine (O’Cain) and Jess Thompson; his son Larry Wayne Thompson, Jr.; brothers Don Allen Thompson and Jess “Sonny” Thompson; nephews James Allan Thompson and Tommy Jess Thompson; as well as his beloved “Taz”.
Larry is survived by his wife Charlotte Ann (Guth) Thompson, sister Mary Susan (Johnny) Wolfe, sister-in-law Sylvia (Don Allen) Thompson, son Jeffrey Lynn (Leslie) Thompson, son Brian Allan Speer, daughter Nicole Ann (Dan) Pickel; eight grandchildren - Levi Dillan (Kayla)Thompson, Tyler Wayne (Abbi) Thompson, Jeffrey Kyle Thompson, Madison Grace Speer, Ethan Cole Donovan, Rebecca Danielle Donovan, Wesley Wayne Pickel, Darci Danielle Pickel; seven great grandchildren - Braiden Daniel Thompson, Kinley Jewel Thompson, Layla Kay Thompson, Charleigh Grace Thompson, Calvin Wayne Thompson, Evelyn Nell Thompson, Calvin Patrick Reilly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry Wayne Thompson Sr. will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the love he shared with his family and friends. His spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
