Lillian "Tonta" Russell Hopson was born November 30, 1926 in Sinton, Texas to parents Lillian Pearl Hopson and William David Hopson.

Tonta grew up in Sinton and attended Sinton High School and later completed secretarial school in Corpus Christi. While living in Sinton she was the bookkeeper at Sinton Auto Parts and later worked in the office at Centex Cement Company in Corpus Christi. In 1987 she moved to Austin, Texas to help expand Sherrill Draperies. She helped run that office for several years and then finished her working career with the Texas Teacher’s Retirement System. In 2014, Tonta moved to Houston (Missouri City) to live with her sister Honey Hopson.

Tonta loved and served the Lord her entire life. She worshipped at the Sinton Church of Christ, Brentwood Church of Christ in Austin, and Westbury Church of Christ in Houston.

Tonta will always be remembered for her love and strong commitment to her family. She cared for her mother Pearl until she passed away in 1988. Her nieces and nephews as well as her great nieces and nephews always know they were her greatest joy. They all looked forward to staying with her where they would be spoiled, treated to sweets, and took trips to the dollar store. She spent countless hours making batches of cookies and candies. To her having plenty of sweets was a gesture of love. She loved planning and attending the large family gatherings. Next to family Tonta loved her German shepherds and the University of Texas Longhorns. Tonta always enjoyed sports. In addition to watching sports she enjoyed playing golf and tennis. She had a love for travel and visited many places in the US and abroad with her family and friends.

Tonta was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers William David Hopson, James Stuart Hopson, and her sister Ida Laura Hopson. She is survived by her brother Lewis “Buddy” Hopson.

I remember Aunt Tonta always having a smile on her face and joking around. She loved her Longhorns and German Shepards but it was her (great)neices and (great)nephews that really made her light up. She will always be a happy memory and in my heart.
