Lola Lois Lazier Shelley, 91, peacefully passed away on September 4, 2023 in Houston, Texas. Lois Shelley was a longtime resident of Fort Worth, Texas. She and her husband of 72 years, A. Ralph Shelley, moved to Houston five years ago to be close to family.
Lois had an incredible love for her husband. They were high school sweethearts. She worked from home raising five daughters on the Eastside of Fort Worth where she lived for over 55 years. Lois was active in the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for many years. She was responsible for setting up programming for meetings. Lois was an active member of Meadowbrook United Methodist Church working with youth and young couples. Lois’ hobbies included writing poetry and compiling family histories. Lois was an avid voter and dedicated to flying the United States Flag at her home. She was a member of the Sarah Kincaid Cook chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) following in the footsteps of her mother. Lois was a champion ping pong player in high school and enjoyed socializing with her Supper Club for many years. She enjoyed entertaining, family reunions, bowling, golfing, dancing, crossword puzzles, and Dr Pepper. She was known for her homemade Hot Fudge Sauce.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents Paul Litch Lazier and Della Fell Lazier; her sister Ella Mae Lazier Durham (Harold); her brothers Andy Lazier (Maxine), Dale Lazier (June), Paul Lazier (Edith), Murney Lazier (Olga), and Willard Lazier (Gay).
Lois is survived by her husband, A. Ralph Shelley; daughters, Julie Locke (David), Paula Cook, Valerie Shelley, Lori Sommer (Mark), and Terry Kanzig (Paul); grandchildren Tim Locke, Sarah Locke Smith (Travis), Caitlin Cook Clark (Tanner), Lauren Cook, Philip Shelley, Aaron Shelley (Samantha), Clarke Kanzig, and Lucas Kanzig, great-grandchildren Owen Smith, Ava Shelley and Olivia Shelley. Lois was very proud that she had 23 nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caring and loving staff at Clarewood House for the care of our wife, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
A memorial service will be held in Houston, Texas at the Clarewood House, 7400 Clarewood Dr., Houston,TX 77036 on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow.
Honorary Pallbearers are grandchildren Tim Locke, Sarah Locke Smith, Caitlin Cook Clark, Lauren Cook, Philip Shelley, Aaron Shelley, Clarke Kanzig, and Lucas Kanzig.
