Marvin Johnnie Klovenski, age 84, was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Houston Texas, on November 2, 1938, to Johnnie Pete and Ruby Margaret (Swonke) Klovenski; he left this world to be with his Savior on May 20, 2023. Over the past ten years, Marvin battled several different cancers, all of which he managed and successfully overcame.
Marvin was very dedicated to his family, he and Louise were both Foster Parents with Catholic Charities to over 125 children during a 10-year span of their marriage, establishing the foster children's lives with love and acceptance as they began their lives with new families.
Marvin also was very proud to be from Kashmere Gardens. In the early years of Marvin’s life, he lived in Kashmere Gardens. He enjoyed telling the memories of his life there. He had a horse, named Tricksey. Marvin would ride all over the neighborhood, and he spoke lovingly of his horse; it is our hope that he and Tricksey met at the Rainbow Bridge to once again rekindle their friendship. Marvin worked at the neighborhood Rose & Henry’s Grocery Store and was an active member of the CYO - Catholic Youth Organization at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where in fact he continued to serve as an altar boy at Mass until he was 21 years of age. Marvin graduated from Jeff Davis High School. After graduation, the family moved to the Northside of Houston, where he met the love of his life, Louise Ann Laskowski.
Marvin also loved to spend time with his Uncle Everett and Aunt Elsie, at their home down in Seabrook, fishing, working on their property, and handcrafting Boats Uncle Everett loved to build.
His work career spanned many different opportunities, including Foley’s Downtown where he worked in the Cash Office, his beloved First City National Bank, and finally Texas Commerce Bank, from which he retired. While banking was his mainstay, he loved customer service and the Houston Astros. Marvin worked for the Astros ticket office for over 43 years. There was not a Sunday home game that the family was not in attendance, at the Houston Astrodome cheering the beloved team. He followed each game up until his passing. We would like to recognize the friendship of Bill Cannon, Knox Clark, Debra Knox, and Ann Fletcher over the years provided to Marvin while working for the Astros.
In his limited spare time, Marvin loved to fish, saltwater fishing was his preference, and a love he passed on to all his children and grandchildren. They would spend many days together fishing along the coast. Marvin also loved an honest laugh at a good joke, many silly jokes were shared with all those he came in contact with, and the sillier the better. He would hoot and laugh at his own jokes right along with those he was delivering the punchline to, most of which were tickled at Marvin’s enjoyment of his own joke(s). Growing up and even into adulthood, Marvin loved cartoons, he laughed so hard everyone in the house could hear! Maybe something we all should partake in, cartoons and laughter, the simpler things in life.
We would like to thank Dr. Charles Manner and team of Oncology Consultants for their care and compassion during his treatment. We would also like to thank Henry and Joyce May for their friendship of 59 years and to Jerre and Doris Williams for their many years of friendship while living in Mayfair Park, in Houston.
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 63 years Louise Ann Klovenski, parents Johnnie Pete and Ruby Margaret Swonke Klovenski, and brother Larry Dean Klovenski.
