Nelle Threlkeld Reed, 99, passed away on May 21st 2018. She was born to Pearl Stalcup and Arway Bower Threlkeld on her family's farm in Paris Missouri on July 25th 1918. She was the youngest and last surviving of four children, all sisters. Nelle Graduated Paris High School and attended business school in Kansas City. She went on to work for the Federal Land Bank in Kansas City and later transferred to Columbia Missouri where she worked for the University.
During WWII Nelle landed a job with Government Small Arms in St. Louis and was soon transferred to Douglas AFB in Arizona where she met her husband, Raye C. Reed (Raye passed in 1994).
Nelle was a member of St. Stevens United Methodist Church in Amarillo for 40 years where she was an active volunteer as long as health allowed. She was also a member of the Senior Citizen Association's Bridge club and was a frequent player there.
Nelle is survived by her 3 children, Douglas Bower Reed of Oklahoma City, Deborah Rae Cuellar of Sugar Land, Texas and Keith R. Reed of Houston. Granddaughters Marci Hammond, and Amy Suttles of Oklahoma City, Lauren Cuellar, Cristina Brown and Erin Reed, of Houston, and Grandson Douglas Raye Reed of Austin, Texas and by 4 Great Grandchildren, Evan and Emery Hammond, and Carson and Chase Suttles, all of Oklahoma City.
Nelle was a very strong woman, having survived open heart surgery twice and a major automobile accident, all over 30 years ago. She was a very loving and nurturing Mother and Grand Mother and was a personal miracle to all that survive her.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Llano Cemetery, 2900 S. Hayes St., Amarillo, TX 79103. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.earthmansouthwest.com
