Pat Murphy was born and raised in Austin, Texas, in a family that loved children, sports and made wonderful and lasting memories. He was elevated to sainthood by his oldest brother, Terry Dean, and lovingly tolerated by his brother, Chuck, whose Kingston Trio records his little brother shamelessly wore out. Pat knew every lyric to every song the Kingston Trio ever sang and enjoyed their concerts later in life.
Pat graduated in 1967 from John H. Reagan High School in Austin, Texas, by the skin of his teeth, making many lifelong and cherished friends along the way.
Pat enlisted in the Marine Corps in October of 1967 with his battle buddy and childhood friend, Gene Raumaker. Cpl. Worrell served with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 3rd Marine Division, FSB Russell, Quang Tri, Vietnam, aka “The Rockpile”. He earned recognition for his service including 3 medals. He didn’t talk much about it except to say he was grateful to get back home to Texas. He was Texas through and through.
On September 16, 1970, Pat graduated from the 41st class of the Austin Police Department, Austin, Texas. Hence began his 40 years of proud and distinguished service as a police officer in Texas. He served with Austin PD, Stafford PD and Missouri City PD where he served with pride and grit for 35 years. Along the way he earned his Bachelor's Degree, graduated from the FBI National Academy and well, there’s so much more.
In 2011, Assistant Chief of Police Pat Worrell retired from the Missouri City Police Department. This is spite of the little-known fact that in 1968 he received word from his mother, while he was in Vietnam, that the State of Texas wanted it’s Driver’s License back. It was unceremoniously suspended because Pat Murphy was notorious for speeding and DPS was having no more of that. That certainly didn’t slow him down. If you have ever been the passenger in a vehicle Pat was driving, you know the feeling of seeing your life pass before your eyes. He taught all of his children to drive. You’ve been warned.
He was welcomed at Heaven’s Gates by his son, Bray Micheal Worrell; his wife of many years, Ann Nicholson Worrell; his parents Charles (“Bill”) William Worrell and Elsie Johnson; his brothers Terry Dean Worrell and Charles (“Chuck”) William Worrell; sister-in-law Harriet Worrell and his children’s “Granny Gwen” Worrell.
He leaves behind to bask in the memories of his love, humor, antics and heroics, his wife Andrea Wiltse Worrell; his daughter Alison Heath, husband Dan, children Megan and Andrew (“Drew”); his daughter Kimberly Zapata, husband Rick, and children Becca Wilcox, husband Devin, children Grayson, Barrett and Jackson; son Jacob, wife Jessica, children Tobias, Theodore and Charlotte; daughter Evelyn, wife Jessica; his son, Spencer, wife Kayla, children Tayor and Karli; son Stephen, wife Meghan, and daughter Kate; son Jimmy McKee, wife Brenda, children Megan and Chase; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Pat’s memorial service will be held May, 15, 2026, at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 South Kirkwood Road, Stafford, TX 77477 at 2:00 p.m.. A private burial with full military honors will be held at the Houston National Cemetery on May 15, 2026.
Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family and share memories of Pat during a reception to be held in the event room at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home.
