Mr. Lewand was an International Oil & Gas Vice President {Operational, General and QHSE Management} who worked with Schlumberger; FMC Technologies; Moduspec USA; Expro Americas, and Allied Wireline. While with Schlumberger Internal Audit, he created a new way to reduce expenses and coined the term, “SAVE”: Schlumberger Analysis of Vendor Effectiveness. In those days, not only was he considered creative, but also as one of the “young lions”, an aspiring, capable, career Engineer. For several years, Mr. Lewand ran his own Mail Boxes, etc. store, whereby the neighborhood kids referred to him affectionately as “Mr. Pete” or “Postal Pete” and he enjoyed being engaged with civic matters. As a young man, he worked nights with a team of mature men, repairing machines at the United States Post Office while simultaneously attending college. Many individuals that worked with Mr. Lewand recall that he approached his projects with an upbeat attitude and members of teams or departments that he oversaw recall that he was a gracious mentor.
Mr. Lewand had many interests, aside from continuing career education by way of attending conferences and earning certifications, such as: TAPROOT, Six Sigma, Price Waterhouse Audit Training, and PMBOK Project Management. He was keen to research family history, while sharing insights with others as to assist them with their own searches and resultant joy of discovery. He relished opening up his home for entertaining and appreciated a good game of Scrabble or Sudoku. Golf and swimming were sports that stayed with him his entire life, as well as soaking up some of the sun's rays, whether at the beach or by a pool. In school, Mr. Lewand participated in shot put and discus, indoor track, wrestling, baseball, and in football played a tough lineman. In addition, reading, listening to music, travelling, running, hiking, birding, gardening, and capturing nature with photography all held his interest.
Born in Mineola, New York and raised in Levittown, Long Island, New York, Mr. Lewand graduated from Levittown Memorial High School in 1970. He earned his BS from New York Institute of Technology and his MBA from The University of Texas at Dallas. While earning his MBA, he sought approval to take the maximum course load in order to complete the program within a specific time period, and did so while working full time. As an Engineer, he traveled extensively both domestically and internationally, with a few relocations. In 1977, Mr. Lewand became a resident of Denver, Colorado; spent an extended period of time in Farmington, New Mexico; and then took up residence in Sugar Land, Texas.
He was a 7-year Glioblastoma (GBM) and 9-year Melanoma Survivor. Never one to shirk the opportunity to fight these monsters, he kept up with therapies and monitoring tests. He maintained a positive outlook on life, hope for the future, faith in God, and an appreciation for each day. Moreover, in his quiet, kind way he counseled with other newly diagnosed; pleased to educate, console and encourage.
