He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Velma (Behrens) Speed. He is survived by his aunt, Laura (Behrens) Thac, and several cousins.
Ray was born and raised in Houston where he graduated from Alief Hastings High School in 1976. He worked as a butcher for a few grocery stores prior to a career in home inspections and improvements. In his later years, Ray enjoyed being self-employed as he bought and sold antiques and collectibles though both in person and online auctions. He was always willing and available to help friends and family on a moment’s notice without hesitation. While Ray never married, he lived a full and vibrant life. He loved animals especially his beloved cat Mr. Balls. His hearty laugh and philosophical conversations will be missed by his many friends and family.
