He eventually earned an additional certification at the University of Houston and taught marketing and distribution at Victoria High School, where he finished his career. He loved working with kids and truly enjoyed his job. During a two-year hiatus from teaching, Dick also served in the US Army from 1952-1954.
In 1959, he met his wife Mary Lou Miculka in Eagle Lake, Texas. They married on December 21, 1959 and began their married life in Indiana. In 1969, they moved to Victoria, Texas, where they raised their two children, Andy and Melodie. Dick retired from teaching in 1992 with 44 years of service. In 2001, he and Mary Lou moved to Sugar Land, where he was a member of First Baptist Church-Richmond. During retirement, he enjoyed being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with his family.
