Robert Shane Manning, age 56, of Missouri City, Texas left this earth and moved to his heavenly home on Sunday morning, March 31, 2024. He died in his home in Missouri City, Texas due to heart related difficulties. Shane, as he was known by, was born on June 29, 1967 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the son of the late Robert Julian and Natalie Stacy Manning. He spent all of his growing up years in West Liberty, Kentucky. He was a graduate of Morgan County High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master’s Degree from Morehead State University. Last year, he had acquired his Real Estate License and was beginning his career as an agent with Keller Williams Southwest. He was looking forward to his new career after his retirement from the education field next year.
As an educator, Mr. Manning started his teaching career at Crockett Elementary School in Morgan County, Kentucky. His years in education spanned over 34 years in four different states. He held multiple positions including teacher, math specialist, campus assessment coordinator and campus principal to name a few. He also worked for over 3 years with the Holland America Cruise Line. He started out as an Activities Director for the children’s programs and he worked his way up to being the Cruise Director. He visited over 100 countries during this period and picked up multiple artifacts from his travels that still remain in his home. He enjoyed sketching pictures as he traveled as he enjoyed working with his hands. He used those skills to also build Adirondack chairs, painting and gardening. He believed to living life to the fullest.
Mr. Manning was baptized on April 25, 1976 at First Baptist Church of West Liberty, Kentucky by Brother Bob Bottoms. As a child and young man, he attended Sunday school and Royal Ambassadors with his Uncle Richie Stacy as his teacher. When Shane was older, he gave back by also teaching Sunday school and Royal Ambassadors. He was always interested in helping children learn at school, on the cruise ship and at Church.
Shane never met a stranger. He was very outgoing and friendly, always telling stories and making people laugh. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, kind and loving spirit and zest for life. He will be greatly missed by all his many family members and friends.
Shane met his soul mate, Rod Martin, on April 4, 2003 in Tampa, Florida where Shane resided at that time. They feel in love quickly and after a short courtship, Rod purposed to Shane at the Golden Gate Bridge in the fall of 2004 and they were married on November 19, 2005.
He is survived by his husband, Roderick Martin; his son Steven Manning Martin of Missouri City, Texas; his sister, Stacey Manning Williams and her husband Tommy of Clarksville, Tennessee; his brother, Julian “Jody” Manning of Lexington, Kentucky; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends mostly in the Texas, Tennessee, Florida and Kentucky areas.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Earthman Southwest Funeral Home, 12555 South Kirkwood Road in Stafford.
