Rose was born in El Campo, TX. She graduated from Sacred Heart School, Hallettsville, TX, in 1955. She went on to college and graduated from Our Lady of the Lake College, San Antonio, TX, in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.
Rose married the love of her life, John Steven Janik, on December 28, 1959, at St. Philips Church in El Campo, TX. They established their home together in El Campo, TX where Rose and John had their four children – John Kevin, Marisa Nicolette, Jon Lance and James Michael. They lived as a family in Victoria, TX; Gregory-Portland, TX; New Orleans, LA; and ultimately landed in Missouri City, TX in the Quail Valley community where they spent the last 46 years. While living in Quail Valley, Rose worked in the Alief School District for more than 20 years as a Speech Pathologist where she impacted countless lives for the better. During that time, she attended the University of Houston in the evenings to earn her Masters in Speech Pathology. She continued to work for Alief as a contractual worker for the speech pathology department where she mentored many students of all ages and colleagues. After completing her work for Alief, Rose continued to share her wisdom in the speech pathology field with many young priests at St. Mary’s Seminary in Houston, TX.
Rose had many joys in life, but her greatest joys were her family – especially her grandchildren - and her Faith. It was not just her immediate family, her family included the many friends she met along the way in her life - she treated all she encountered as family. She loved spending time and hosting friends and family at their bay house in Port Alto, TX. She enjoyed decorating, gardening, reading, traveling, sewing, serving the Lord and attending daily mass. She genuinely enjoyed and lived her Faith. Her devotion to her Faith was witnessed by all who knew her. It is a legacy she instilled in her children and grandchildren.
Rose is survived by her loving husband, John; her son Lance, his wife Kathy and two children, Katelan and Kessler; her son Mike, his wife Kathy and two children, Michael Ryan and Tate; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rose is preceded in death by two of her children, Kevin and Marisa (Happy); her parents, Jerome and Vlasta Sliva, and her brothers, Dennis and Eugene Sliva.
