

SYBIL BARRINGTON CORBETT RIDDLE, 81, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012, in Houston, TX. Sybil was born in Raleigh, NC, May 5, 1931, the only child of Marion and Sybil Barrington Corbett. She grew up in Fayetteville, NC, and graduated from high school as the valedictorian. Sybil went to Agnes Scott College in Atlanta graduating with a degree in History. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and president of the student body. After graduation, Sybil was employed by Agnes Scott College as its Alumni Representative. She obtained a Master’s degree in History and pursued a Doctorate degree at Washington University in St. Louis. Sybil raised her family in Charlotte, NC; Birmingham, AL; St. Louis, MO; Houston, TX; and Wilton, CT. Over the years, Sybil spent much time at her home in Montreat, NC, where her family would join her. Her professional life included teaching at St. Louis and Houston Community Colleges and employment at First Union Bank. Sybil retired as manager of the Yesteryear Gift Shop at the Harris County Heritage Society in Sam Houston Park, where she also served as a docent. She was a member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church where she was involved with women's circle, handbell choir and Sunday school. Sybil enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, traveling, gardening and scrapbooking. She was preceded in death by her parents. Sybil is survived by her husband of 59 years, Eugene Riddle; three children, Catherine McIntosh (David) of Tulsa, OK, Jefferson Riddle (Gloria) of Sugar Land, TX, and Charlotte Sebesta (Michael) of Roswell, GA; six grandsons, Luke McIntosh (Hillary) , Scott McIntosh (Lindsey), Clayton Riddle (Ashley), James Riddle, Andrew Riddle, and Matthew Sebesta; one granddaughter, Laura McIntosh; and three great-granddaughters. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday November 9, 2012, at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Dr., Houston. A private inurnment will be held at Lewis Memorial Park, in Asheville, NC, at a later date.
