Virginia “Ginny” Ruth Hegarty, our Mother, Mimi & best friend was called home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Christmas Day, December 25th, 2022 at 89 years old peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Ginny was a true southern belle born in Birmingham, Alabama on February 6, 1933 to Aubrey & Curtis Yarbrough. She graduated from Fairfield High School and studied to be a Comptometer Operator and worked in accounting at an oil and gas company until she met the love of her life.
On September 15, 1961 she married Donald “Don” Lee Hegarty where she met 5 months earlier on a blind date in Birmingham, Alabama. They fell in love and she spent the next 55 years as a devoted and loving wife to Don and mother to her Son, Todd and Daughter, Tonya Hegarty. She and Don settled down in Houston, Texas to raise their children. Ginny worked throughout the years only with employers that would accommodate her first love which was her husband and raising her two beautiful children. In the late 1980’s in her late 50’s, she became a Real Estate Agent for the next 15 years and loved every minute of her career before she retired.
She and Don had a passion and love of travel and was blessed with the opportunity to visit many countries around the world throughout their marriage. Her faith in Christ was the center of her world. She was a longtime member of Westbury Baptist Church in Houston, TX, First Baptist Church in El Paso, TX, Mims Baptist Church in Conroe, TX and then River Point Church in Richmond, TX.
We can humbly say that Ginny made a lasting impression on everyone she met with her charm, which was only surpassed by the size of her heart. She will be remembered most by her kindness, generosity, honor, humor and love for her Lord Jesus Christ, family and friends!
Ginny will forever be loved by those she has left behind. She is survived by her Son, Todd Hegarty and Daughter, Tonya Scanlin; son-in-law, David Scanlin; her one and only grandchild, Brylie Cantu and many other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Donald Lee Hegarty, her father, Curtis Yarbrough and her mother Aubrey Cook Yarbrough.
