Aldora was born in 1949 in the Azores Islands, Portugal. She immigrated to the United States as a teenager along with several members of her family, living in California for most of her life. She earned her citizenship in her 20s and was always proud of being an American.
Aldora was a stay at home mom for most of her daughters’ early childhood. When her girls were in their teens she decided she was ready for a new challenge and enrolled in the local university. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in the early 1990s, then earned her teaching credentials the following year. She worked as a substitute teacher for a few years before deciding to go in a different direction. She earned an accounting certification and began working as an accounting manager for several local companies. Throughout her life, Aldora set an example for her daughters about the importance of education, self-improvement and perseverance.
She was preceded in death by her best friend, husband and partner in life, Chalmer (Buster) Morris in 2005. They loved visiting the beaches in northern California and Oregon, often leaving before the sun came up so they could have breakfast at one of the small local restaurants along the coast. They enjoyed going on long road trips together, making several cross country trips to visit family and go sightseeing. One of their favorite adventures was an epic road trip from northern California to the Yukon Territory and Alaska where they toured historical sites and spotted bears, elk, moose and other wildlife.
Aldora enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and liked to organize social activities with her neighbors. She will be remembered by her siblings for helping take care of them after they lost their mother, even showing her younger sisters how to straighten their hair using vegetable cans. Her daughters will remember her for waking up early on Thanksgiving to make her homemade crescent rolls, for her sometimes-unintentional sense of humor, and for her constant pride in their accomplishments.
Aldora was an avid reader and especially loved historical romances and mysteries. She visited her local library frequently and would often read late into the night, a trait that she passed on to her daughters. Aldora was a fierce Scrabble player and enjoyed a nice glass of red wine and a good afternoon nap. She also loved to crochet and created many colorful blankets that her family will treasure for years to come. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Aldora is survived by her daughters, Chila and Bonnie and their partners, as well as her two sweet granddaughters. She is also survived by several siblings, along with their spouses and children.
Aldora requested no services to be held. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to their favorite charity in Aldora’s name.
