

Alfonso Caycedo, age 81 passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022 at his daughter‘s residence in Stafford, Virginia where he was residing with his wife. He was born on August 3, 1940 in Bogota, Colombia. The son of the late Carlos A. and Magola (Flores) Caycedo.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as sisters, Teresa Caycedo, Magdalena Gamboa, and Leonore Buitrago.
Alfonso proudly joined the United States Army in 1962, and was later honorably discharged. In 1967 he married his wonderful bride, Cristel in Bogota, Colombia. He was employed at the USAID as an accountant and later as an auditor. In 1976 he moved his family from Bogota, Colombia to Alexandria, VA where he took a position as an auditor for the Organization of American States where he remained until he retired as the Chief Principal Auditor in 1996.
His beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of his survivors including his loving wife of 54 years, Cristel Caycedo; one son, John Caycedo and wife Adrienne of Dumfries, VA; one daughter, Pilar Nealis and husband Jason of Stafford, VA; five grandchildren, Alexys Ricker, Brittaney Nealis, Brandon Caycedo, Kayla Nealis, Trevor Caycedo, one great grandchild, Bryson Ricker; and two sisters, Helena Bretherton of Dumfries, VA and Olga Bayard of College Station, Texas.
Alfonso loved dancing, telling jokes, and had a gift of making people smile. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his ability to empathize and listen to his family and friends at any time, his love of life, and his infectious laugh.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service in Stafford, VA with Father Henry Rivera officiating. Burial will follow at Stafford Memorial Park.
