He was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina on August 24th, 1943 to Jasper and Katie Arnold (Both Deceased), and was raised alongside his brothers Preston Arnold (D), Jasper Jr. Arnold (D), and Troy Arnold (D); and his sisters Ethel Payne (D), Angelina Hardison, Angolden Brewer, LaValette A. Smith, and Elizabeth Emanuel (D).
Alphonso Sr. graduated from Georgetown High School in Jacksonville, NC and went on to live and work in Northern Virginia mastering many occupations, and eventually retiring from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority as a Senior Metrobus Operator. Alphonso married and is survived by his wife of 50+ years Dianne R. Arnold (age 76). They have one son, Alphonso Arnold, Jr. (age 42) whom they raised together in Woodbridge, Virginia, and which later cared for Mr. Arnold in Stafford, Virginia until his passing. He was the proud Grandfather of one grandchild, Cherish Leilani Arnold (age 7).
Mr. Arnold Sr. was a true man of God, husband, father, teacher, and advocate for Jesus. He won many souls for Christ and never hesitated to help or pray for loved ones and strangers alike. He was a great man of faith, full of wisdom, never backed down, never gave up, and always acted with love, compassion, and care for those around him. He lived meaningfully and purposely, fulfilling his calling and duty on this Earth, and will be sure to hear:
"Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord" [Matthew 25:21].
The immediate household of Mr. Arnold Sr. has asked not to have a funeral or memorial service, and would like for everyone not to mourn him, but to be encouraged and rejoice because to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord [2 Corinthians 5:8].
We are certain he is alive and well in Heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen!
