1945-2020
It is with deep sadness the Metzger family announces the death of our patriarch, Anthony Metzger, at the age of 75. Following a lengthy battle with mesothelioma, Tony passed away peacefully on December 23, at his home in Stafford, Virginia. Tony was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Years later, he joined the U.S. Navy. Tony served on the USS Midway, the USS La Salle, among various other shore commands, retiring in 1992 as a Yeoman Chief Petty Officer.
Tony was a devoted husband and father, who was passionate about books, movies, food, and art. Above all, Tony enjoyed time spent at home on his screened in porch, among his friends, family, and pugs. He spent his final days holding his loved ones' hands, sharing words of wisdom, wit, and love.
Tony is survived by his wife of 42 years, Corazon; children, Michael, Wendy, Julianne; and his many grandchildren. While we grieve this tremendous loss, we are comforted that Tony is with his Lord Jesus to celebrate Christmas, free from pain and suffering.
Chief, Tony, Dad, Grandpa: we’ll miss you more than you’ll ever know. We love and pray for you.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue, in memory of Tony at https://www.midatlanticpugrescue.org/.
Thank you to the Mary Washington Hospice team who helped us care for him in his final months.
Tony wished for his final services to be private among immediate family and his close friends.
