

During his struggle with pancreatic cancer, Tony remained strong and positive and continued to work hard and live life to the fullest. Tony had degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Information Management. He retired from the U.S. Army Material Command in 2010 after 32 years of federal service. Tony supported the Army’s research, development and acquisition of weapons systems in support of our Soldiers. He loved his career with the Army. Tony spent most of his career at Ft. Belvoir, VA but also held positions in Warren, MI and in Germany. Most recently, he worked for Cortek, Inc and Jacobs Engineering. Tony was a devout Christian and active member of Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Stafford. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife Carol of 21 years, as well as a dedicated father to son Joel. His family adored him.
Tony was born on November 16, 1954 in Clinton, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Gaines Smith and Mary Lucille Prather. He is survived by his wife Carol Smith, brother Terry Smith and wife Connie, son David “Joel” Smith, stepsons Derek Bauckman and wife Amber & Jacob Bauckman and wife Rebecca, and 3 grandchildren Charlie, Delia, and Charlotte Bauckman.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 15th at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 16th at the funeral home. Interment will be in Stafford Memorial Park.
