Barbara Joan Fretwell

Barbara Joan Fretwell, 83 of Stafford passed away at Stafford Hospital Center on Friday, January 11, 2019. Barbara was born on July 26, 1935 in Washington, D.C. She spent her life caring for children and giving back to the community. Barbara worked as a preschool teacher but upon moving to Stafford in 1991, she dedicated her life to giving back to the community. She spent many years helping to coordinate the annual toy drive through Stafford Department of Social Services. She eventually landed as a volunteer with S.E.R.V.E., Inc. where she worked in the food pantry and establishing the annual holiday programs. Barbara served as the Executive Director of S.E.R.V.E., Inc. until she retired in the early 2000s. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Bufalari and Debra Stout; brother, Gilbert Myers; six grandchildren (Crystal, Walter, Arthur, Bridget, Nicholas, and Douglas) and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Fretwell and son, Walter Stout III. A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 4, 2019 in Quantico National Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
