

Charles Anthony Lucia, Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.) passed away on March 13, 2022, at the age of 73. He maintained his strength and resilience up until the day of his passing. He was born April 27, 1948, in New Orleans, LA until his family relocated to Baton Rouge, LA at a young age where he later attended Louisiana State University (LSU). He always had pride for his hometown and his alma mater. He was a fun loving, great man who loved financial planning and outdoor adventures and sports to include camping, snow skiing, football, racquetball/tennis and was an avid runner during his younger years before retirement and struggles with his neurological disease.
He graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1966 and received a bachelor’s degree in education at LSU in 1971. He was commissioned in the United States Army shortly after graduating and served 30 years and “8 days” until retiring as a Colonel in 2002. He absolutely loved the Army and serving his country. During his military career he received a master’s degree in personnel management/administration from Central Michigan University in 1985 and master’s degree in national resource strategy at the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1996. He was awarded numerous medals to include Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), Army Commendation Medal (2nd award), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (5th award), and the Parachutist Badge. He loved all his assignment locations and travels around the world to include Germany, Panama, Turkey, Haiti and stateside Georgia, Washington, Alaska, Arizona, and Virginia where he retired as G-6, United States Army Intelligence and Security Command, Ft. Belvoir, VA.
He was the son of the late Morris V. Lucia, Sr. and Anna Mae Chapoton Lucia, and nephew Aaron J. Lucia. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Susan M. Lucia; three children, Shane, Michelle, and Kristen Lucia; brothers Morris V. Lucia, Jr., and Allan J. Lucia; niece Drew Lucia; great niece Gabrielle Lucia and many beloved cousins.
A Life Celebration Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 18825 Fuller Heights Road, Triangle, VA on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at The Clubhouse at Aquia Harbour, 204 Bow Cove, Stafford, VA. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA with full honors at a date to be determined.
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org), National Organization for Rare Disorders, or any neurological disease association.
