
He was a member of St. William of York Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was instrumental in establishing Pop Warner Football and Little League Baseball in Woodbridge. He was an avid outdoorsmen and US Navy Veteran.
He is survived by nine children, William Wright Stafford of Mooresville, NC, Timothy Vann Stafford of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Martha W. Burgess of Fredericksburg, David J. Stafford of Laporte, IN, Christi R. Hylton of Roanoke, Vincent Carlton Stafford of Stafford, Martin Francis Stafford of Stafford, Dale Patrick Stafford of Beckley, WV, and Georgia Leigh Milam of Round Hill; brother, Glen Derwood Stafford of North Carolina; twenty three grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Frances; son, Mark Grant Stafford; grandson, David E. Burgess Jr.; and two brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 from 6-8:00 PM, with a rosary at 7:30 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 10:30 AM, with burial to follow in Stafford Memorial Park.
