

He went on to join the Navy reserves, where he was drafted to active duty. After serving his country in the Korean War. He took over his stepfather’s laundry business, drove a cab, and invested in a traveler’s lodge. He then worked for the federal government for 25 years, in which he helped organize Blacks in Government. Don met Leah Ray who he would go on to marry. They had one daughter together, Kimberly Adams, and Don had a son, Detrich Fundersburg.
Don attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church and served on the deacon board. After retiring he continued to stay in the DMV area, where he worked in real estate and Catholic Charities. Don loved to catch and eat fish and throughout his life he was always an advocate for the underdog.
He will be missed by his children, Kimberly Adams, married to Lisa Urban of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Detrich Funbersburg of Maryland; four grandchildren, Joseph Evans of Stafford, Virginia, Robert Evans of Woodbridge, Virginia, Janae Fundersburg of Maryland, and Janelle Fundersburg of Maryland; five great grandchildren; one brothers, Lt. Colonel John H. Adams Jr. and Rolondo Adams; one niece, Denice Hill; three nephews, Jon Adams, Don Adams and Jackie Roderick Adams; and great nieces and great nephews.
