Frederick William Herbst Jr.

Fred was born June 29, 1933 in Tacoma Park, Maryland to Frederick W. Herbst, Sr. and Lillian Whitehead Herbst. He lived his boyhood in Vienna, Virginia and graduated from the Shenandoah Valley Academy. He raised four sons in Mount Vernon while working with his father in the commercial construction industry. Gaining valuable skills and knowledge working with his father, Fred went on to start his own companies in the residential construction, refurbishment, and rental industries.

In his forties, Fred met the love of his life, Judy. Though Fred and Judy enjoyed their respective careers, spending time with their family was their favorite activity. They also enjoyed going to NASCAR races, visiting lighthouses, finding lovely restaurants on their day or weekend trips, and just enjoying the wildlife nature blessed them with around their home. They wholeheartedly loved their large and ever-growing family and the beautiful home they made for themselves.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife and forever love, Judy Marie Schmidt Herbst; his sons, Frederick W. Herbst, III (Lisa); Frank Allen Herbst, Sr. (Kim); Cary Vernon Herbst, and Ray E. Folsom, Jr. (Wanda); and his daughters, Teresa Kelly-McAfee (Ron) and Toni Herbst Doyle (Larry Zendek); along with seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased in death by his parents and his son Randall Lee Herbst, Sr.

The funeral will be held at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Services located on Shelton Shop Road in Stafford, Virginia on June 19, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
