Georgann Merritt Winslow

She was one of thirteen children born to the late Clayton E. and Ada Harper Merritt. Mrs. Georgann Merritt Winslow was a graduate of Irwin County High School, Class of 1957 Ocilla, GA. While living in Alexandria, VA she met and married William F. Winslow, Jr. of the U.S. Coast Guard , who later became a D.C. firefighter. They later settled in Woodbridge, VA until Mr. Winslow’s death in 1979. In 2004, Mrs. Winslow came to Fernandina Beach to be near her family. Throughout her life she had worked as a Bookkeeper for H & R Block and other businesses. Mrs. Winslow was an avid Washington Redskins fan; she also loved Tony Stewart and the NASCAR circuit. Her family recalls the enjoyment derived from gardening, cooking and providing sunflower seeds to her grandchildren. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fernandina Beach, FL and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters; her husband William F. Winslow, Jr. and daughter, Shawn M. Bailey, who passed away in August of 2010.

Mrs. Winslow leaves behind three daughters, Patricia (Chris) Hybholt of Gig Harbor, WA, Debbie (Bill) Collins of Stafford, Dawn (John MacKay, Jr.) MacKay of Wake Forest, NC; sister Joyce Carter of Fernandina, FL; sister in law, Wanda Merritt of Brunswick, GA; two brothers Wendell Merritt and Gerald Merritt both of Fitzgerald, GA; grandchildren, Corey Bendall, Ashleigh Akin, Caitlyn Collins, Desdia Bailey, Kelsie Collins, Collin MacKay, Jesse Bailey, Christopher MacKay, Jake Hybolt; two great grandchildren, Addyson Wallace and Cameron Cantrell along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, August 19 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. Mrs. Winslow will be laid to rest beside her husband and daughter at in Stafford Memorial Park following the service.

Due to her Love of gardening flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in memory of Georgann to the American Cancer Society 124 Park St SE # 100 Vienna, VA 22180-4656.
