He was born on September 24, 1946, in Chesterfield County, McBee, South Carolina to the late Henry L. and Fortesque (Myers) Wright. He spent his childhood in Chesterfield County South Carolina area and attended Antioch Baptist Church until his family relocated to Virginia.
Henry worked several jobs before he joined the United States Air Force in 1966. He was stationed at Sewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, TN with Tactical Air Command, 2nd Arial Port Squadron, he also attended classes to obtain his GED and met his wife of 56 years (their 57th anniversary was coming up on 24 June 2025). The unit that he was assigned to in Tennessee relocated to Little Rock AFB, Jacksonville, AR. Henry was released from active duty with the rank of Buck Sergeant and received an honorable discharge in 1970.
After leaving the Air Force, Henry and his family moved to the Alexandria, VA area, he worked at a company called Specialties, Inc in Alexandria, VA for a while and eventually ended up working for the United States Postal Service {USPS} as a mail handler and clerk at the USPS Merrifield, VA location. Later he decided to become a letter carrier with USPS. He worked for USPS for 32 years and retired in 2005. Henry enjoyed retirement, he could spend more time with family, friends and working out in the gym, but mostly enjoyed not making the trip on Interstate 95 every day.
Predeceased by his parents and son Anthony C. Wright, sisters Selena Myers Easley, Henrietta Wright and Flore Wright McIlwain, brothers James W Myers and Fred Samuel Myers.
Survivors include his loving wife Dorothy Christmon Wright; one son, Steven C. Wright; two brothers: Willie Ben Wright (Paula) and Bobby Wright (Vilma); four Grandchildren: Josephine DeHart (Wendall), Dominique Cox, Dalithia Cox and Tamia Williams Richardson; 11 Great Grandchildren, a loving niece and nephew: Darlene Yvette Myers and Emery Myers. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, 186 Shelton Shop Road, Stafford, VA 22554 from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM where sharing of memories will begin at 3:00 PM.
