He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. and went on to retire from the United States Geological survey.
Survivors include his sons, Kenneth and Wayne Kerns; daughters, Tami Kerns, Joyce Kerns and Terri Rapine; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, John Kerns and sister, Mary Getter.
The family will receive friends Sunday, June 26 from 1-3 PM at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Home, Stafford Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 PM on Monday, June 27 at Quantico National Cemetery.
