

Hugh Anthony Sullivan was born on October 10, 1958, in Kingston, Jamaica. His parents Selena Robinson and Stanford Sullivan (deceased). He spent his younger years in the loving care of his immediate and extended family members. Hugh excelled in the classroom while attending the prestigious Kingston College. He was an active boy scout who loved camping, hiking, soccer, dancing and swimming.
In the summer of 1976, Hugh and his sister Vivienne migrated to Boston, Massachusetts, to join his mother, Selena. He graduated from The English High School in 1977 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) where he proudly served for over 2 decades. While in the Corps met and married his wife Audrey in New York City. Hugh and Audrey were blessed with two gifted sons, the oldest Kyler born in Boston, MA and youngest Sheldon born in San Diego, California.
Upon completing his service to the USMC, Hugh pursued his associates degree at Northern Virginia Community College and later transferred to Strayer University where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration in 2007. Hugh continued his post-civilian career at the National Science Foundation (NSF) where he worked as a Human Resource Specialist in the Office of Information and Resource Management (OIRM). He quickly became a highly regarded expert in the federal government’s executive hiring process. He spent the next 20 years of his career providing advice and guidance to his colleagues across the foundation.
Due to his love for his boys and passion for the game of soccer, he volunteered with the Olympic Development Program. For five years, Hugh assisted coaches, players, and parents by supporting local trainings, national tournaments, and international trips. His firm and caring demeanor earned him the trust of the players.
Hugh always found time to take his sons to games and practices. He enjoyed socializing with the other parents and was always willing to give a helping hand whenever it was needed. Not only would Hugh attend all his sons’ at home games at the University of Virginia, but also the “Away Games”.
In 2019 Hugh was diagnosis with cancer. He fought a long hard battle, and peacefully left this earth with his family at his bedside on January 6, 2022. Hugh was a beautiful human being, who was compassionate, generous, hard-working, ethical, patient and funny. He was always positive and hopeful. Even during his worst days if we asked how he was feeling he would always say “I am doing ok”. Hugh is a son, brother, soldier, husband, father, colleague, mentor, neighbor, and sport enthusiast. A beautiful soul, who will be forever missed.
Hugh is preceded in death by his father, sister and brother.
He is survived by his mother Selena Robinson, his wife, Audrey; his sons, Kyler and
Sheldon; his sister Vivienne Sullivan along with nieces Bianca and Sherrie and nephew Andrew, a host of cousins and many friends.
A visitation for Hugh will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 186 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford, Virginia 22554. A celebration of life will occur Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 11:00 AM, 186 Shelton Shop Rd, Stafford, Virginia 22554. An interment will occur Thursday, January 20, 2022 at 1:30 PM at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
