

He is preceded in death by his parents, Merlin and Evelyn (Landcastle) Hatfield and a brother, Donald Hatfield.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Clara (Limbrunner) Hatfield; sons, David (Claire) Hatfield of Middletown, CT, Steven (Anna Sue) Hatfield of Baltimore, MD, John (partner Barbara Caplan) of Millersville, MD, Roger (Mya) Hatfield of Stafford, VA, and Roy (Romona) Hatfield of Curtis Point, MD. He also leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers, George (F. Janice), and Richard (Mary Sue) Hatfield, in Oakridge, TN.
Jim was an avid amateur radio operator for forty-three years. He started when serving in the U.S. Army in 1952.
He is a former resident of Ocala, Florida, where he served as treasurer to the Friendship Amateur Radio Club for many years. He also helped the Sheriff’s Department as a relay station during several hurricanes. He was a member of the Sunrise Radio Group. They are a group of radio operators from all over the eastern seaboard who meet to talk and work together every morning. They also spoke with fellow operators around the world.
Prior to that, he resided in Glen Burnie, MD where he was very active with the Boy Scouts and the Suburbia Flag Football Teams. He was former employee of The National Security Agency at Ft. Meade, MD for thirty years.
