Obituary of James Charles Thull
James Charles Thull, 65, of Hartwood, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, June 23, 2022. Jim was born on May 29, 1957 in Kearny, New Jersey to William and Rita Thull, and brother of Bill, Nancy, and Leeann. He was the loving father of Jennifer Cooper (Frederick V.), James, and Charles (Stephanie), and grandfather of Lillianne, Margaret, Bradford, Abigail, and Henry. Jim was an incredibly generous son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Jim was the first to offer help and went above and beyond for important people in his life. Jim loved to laugh, joke around, keep busy, be with family and friends, and enjoyed living life to its fullest. Jim lived a full and fruitful life, filled with love, passion, curiosity, and creativity. Jim was a dedicated Xerox employee for 44 years. He enjoyed weight lifting, running 52+ marathons, and completing ultra marathons. He loved biking, swimming, and training for races. He shared his passion for running with his daughter, Jennifer. Jim spent many years volunteering and then being President of The Fredericksburg Area Running Club, and was the proud director of the Great Train Race and Blue and Gray Half Marathon. Jim also enjoyed volunteering his time at local elections as a Precinct Chief for many years. Jim loved playing the fiddle, guitar, and reading many books. In his free time he enjoyed being a private pilot, skiing, hiking, traveling the US and world, restoring classic cars, and in retirement, sailing and walking his dog. He attempted and excelled at countless hobbies and endeavors, and often did these activities with family and friends. Jim was incredibly self sufficient and enjoyed doing any type of project that he could get his hands on. Jim built two beautiful homes by hand and this past year remodeled his kitchen and his son’s. Jim also grew to love vegetable and flower gardening. Jim did not consider no as an option in life, any project, goal, or accomplishment was always within reach. Jim will be greatly missed by his family and the people he touched with his love, kindness, and generosity. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mullinsthompsonstafford.com for the Thull family.
