

Born on May 11, 1929, in Hackensack, New Jersey, Mary was the cherished daughter of Louis and Concetta Giunta. She spent her formative years in Glassboro, New Jersey, before settling in Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, where she raised her family, and became an active member of St. Jude Parish. Later in life, Mary and her husband, Al, relocated to Stafford, Virginia, to be near their family.
Mary was known for her kindness, generosity, and tenacious spirit. If she knew you were unwell or in need of comfort, she would arrive at your door with chicken noodle soup, chicken pot pie, or a lemon meringue pie.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Albert, and her son, Albert Maiatico.
Mary is survived by her son, Michael Maiatico, and his wife, Becky; her daughter, Maria Merlie, and her husband, John. She was a loving grandmother to four grandchildren: Matt Maiatico and his wife, Rejani; Michael Maiatico and his wife, Lisa; Christine Slemmons and her husband, Kyle; and Jonathan Merlie and his wife, Elsie. Her legacy continues through her four great-granddaughters, Leah, Reya, April, and Phoebe. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as her great-grand puppies Jackie and Penny.
Her daughter and son extend heartfelt gratitude to her friends at The Gardens of Stafford for always being there with a helping hand and a watchful eye over their beloved mother.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 11:00 am, with inurnment to follow at the National Memorial Cemetery in Quantico, where she will rest with her loving husband, Albert.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers.
