He served in the United States Army during WWII where he became permanently disabled. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans as well as American Legion Post 290.
Mitchell was an avid gardener and loved working in and caring for his yard.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years Peggy Keys Zeets, a daughter Katherine Burgess and husband Robert, two grandchildren, Jason Triplett and Lisa Gregory as well as three great grandchildren, Kelsey and Kallie Triplett and Thomas Gregory.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 9, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service 186 Shelton Shop Road. A funeral will be conducted on Tuesday, January 10 at 1 PM at Quantico National Cemetery.
