Mr. Carney was born May 24, 1948, in Accoceek, Maryland, to James Ambrose and Mattie (Catlett)
Carney. He was of Irish and Cherrokee of Powhatan (Pattawomeck Tribe) descent.
He served in the United States Army prior to becoming a plumber and committing his life work to the
General Services Administration (GSA) where he successfully filled several positions from plumber, to
bidder/estimator and building manager and was always acknowledged as hardworking.
He enjoyed classic and antique cars as well as restoring them. His latest project was a 1926 Ford
Model T. Hunting & fishing were other favorite pastimes. He loved being with family, particularly
his grandson. He enjoyed drawing which he expressed a natural talent for and he loved the Lord and
helping others.
He is one of seven siblings and is survived by his wife, Susan Knight Carney, his daughter, Darlene
Yvette Collins, his grandson, Jacob Levi Collins, his son-in-law, Dan Collins, his sister, Josephine Peltz,
and his brother David “Butch” Carney; several cousins, nieces, & nephews; and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Hilton “Scratch” Carney.
The family will be having a private service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
