

Ruth spent her early years in Newport News, Virginia, before later moving to Northern Virginia, where she raised her five children while successfully operating her own cleaning business. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great grandmother whose greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Ruth especially cherished family beach vacations during the summer, planting flowers each year, hosting holiday dinners and gathering around the table to play card games with loved ones.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Violet and Clarence Hewitt; her brothers, Clayton Hewitt and Levon Hewitt; her sister, Violet “Gloria” Dawson; fiancé Gene Hughes and her beloved son, Joseph “Joey” Davis.
She is survived by her sister, Katie Handy; her brothers, Larry Hewitt and David Hewitt; her son, Johnny Davis; her daughters, Tina Marshall (Jeff), Rachel Barb (Daniel), and Melissa Strom (Jason); along with a host of cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a great great grandson, a great great granddaughter, extended family members, and friends who will deeply miss her.
Ruth will be remembered for her love of family, her caring heart, and the many memories she created with those she loved.
