A beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend, Samantha Alvarez, was called to heaven on January 4th, 2020. Born in Irvine, CA on March 17, 1995 to Sergio and Sandra Alvarez, she grew up in Woodbridge and Stafford VA and graduated from Brooke Point High School in 2014 and Northern Virginia Community College in 2017. She was a Senior at Clemson University majoring in Criminal Justice with a focus on sociology and was due to graduate in May 2020. Sami had a love for the arts, enjoyed drawing and listening to music. She had a passion to help and stand up for people who were treated unfairly. She was funny, outgoing and vivacious. Sami was a symbol of power, beauty and grace. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends. We will always remember her infectious laughter, piercing brown eyes and genuine personality. Samantha’s presence in our lives will be sorely missed as she had a positive impact on all she encountered. Sami was the heart and soul of our family and to her circle of friends. When you think of Sami, celebrate the wonderful memories each of you have with her and remember that life is precious, fragile, and short and should be lived to its fullest… Just the way Sami did! She watches over her parents Sergio and Sandy, brothers Sergio Jr., Steven, Ryan and little Sis Mae, her grandparents Robert and Enedina Alvarez and George and Laura Vaughn, Godparents Scottie and Angie Glaspell and Vanessa Lopez. A celebration of her life will be held on January 13, 2020, 10:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 18825 Fuller Heights Rd, Triangle, VA 22172. Samantha Alvarez is my great niece. Her father Sergio Alvarez is my brothers son. This photo was the last time I saw her. She’s with her cousins Fernando, Andrew, Amanda, greatgrandparents, Uncle Andy, Aunt Carol, and Aunt Darlene From California and her parents in the picture. Through Facebook I have been able to keep in touch with her, her parents and my nephews her brothers. The entire Alvarez family adored her. My mom which is her great grandmother would always talk about her. Her great grandfather Robard loves her very much. I have comfort in my heart knowing that Sami is with her grandma Keta in heaven. I know my mom is so happy having Sami by her side. If only we were so lucky to be In heaven. Sami we all love you very much and will continue to hold you in our hearts and watch over your parents and adorable brothers. Shine bright in heaven Sami. Love you forever, Aunt Darlene 🙏♥️

Samantha was my niece and the very last time I saw her was at my brothers wedding she was just a lil girl maybe around nine or ten. I vividly remember all the moments of that day. I remember her smile and her silliness and her just being a little girl and being happy to be around all her cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents it was a very happy time, then the party ended and everyone went home and that was the last time I saw that precious little girl. But then thanks to Facebook I was able to look in on her life and see all the special moments and accomplishments that she had been achieving I was able to see that beautiful smile again and how she was growing up to be a beautiful women and how hard she was working to succeed. The last few years I have enjoyed listening to my mother tell me stories of her visits to Texas and what a great time they all had and how funny she was, my mom absolutely adored Sammy, after all she was her one and only Granddaughter she was so proud of her and the rest of the family was just as proud too. I think the last conversation me and my mom had about Sammy was just a few months ago and she was telling me how she received her Clemson ring and how happy she was and after seeing the pictures you could definitely see the happiness in her smile. Seeing all her special moments and accomplishments have made me so proud and honored to say that, that little is my niece! I’m sorry Sammy that I never got to hug you and tell you how proud I am of you. I will miss hearing about you, I will miss seeing your beautiful smile and I will miss seeing all the great things that you were working so hard to do. I will love you forever Sammy and I will think of you Every day, watch over your brothers and your mom and Dad and if you haven’t already, give grandma a hug for me I know your smiling down on us with all your loved ones up there. I will Love you forever Sammy, Your Auntie Marlene

When I think of Sami I think of her joy for life! She was always curious and eager to try new things. I remember her discussing how her parents always encouraged her to “work hard and play hard!” Indeed, she was a serious student but when it was time for fun she was just as serious about enjoying time with family or friends whether at the movies or during holidays or whenever.

I pray that Sami’s family is comforted by good memories. I know that her family was extremely important to her. I was one of Sami’s high school art teachers and thoughts of Sami bring up her laugh and her eyes and her genuine smile. She touched many lives with her friendly demeanor and easy going nature! She was creative and exuberant ... and she will be sorely missed!

We first met the Alvarez family at Nats Park several years ago when we were all season ticket holders in the same section. We are all very passionate fans and quickly became good friends. We always look for each other when we are at the park and our daughter Victoria and Sami became even closer friends and talk frequently. Victoria, Sami and I were selected to shoot a few Nationals commercials; here is a snapshot frame of one of the videos. We love you Sami and will miss you dearly!!! The Meilhammer Family!!

Sami was a shining light to all who encountered her. She was one of our best and brightest Criminal Justice students, and I loved her dearly. She was a permanent fixture in my office and a joy to all around her. She was also a valuable asset to our CJ Club and I’m lost without her joyfulness, energy, and smile. She was also a bit of a goofball and made all of us laugh especially in our search for her neighborhood WaWa on our trip to DC (we never found it)! We had many discussions of our shared faith and I rest a bit easier knowing that she earned her eternal salvation! In my heart always,
