Sebastian Alexander Serpa, age 9, passed on June 8, 2026, at Children’s National Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Sebastian faced challenges that no child should ever have to endure. Through his battle with a rare form of Medullablastoma brain cancer, he showed remarkable strength, courage, and bravery. Even in difficult moments, he inspired those around him with his determination, resilience, and fighting spirit. His courage touched countless hearts and taught us what true strength looks like.
He was born on June 19, 2016, in Okinawa, Japan, son of Andrew Serpa and Tammy Banh-Serpa.
Though his life was far too short, the impact he made on those around him will be felt forever. Sebastian was a bright light whose smile could fill a room and whose spirit touched the hearts of everyone he met. He possessed a strength and bravery far beyond his years. Throughout his battle with cancer, Sebastian faced each challenge with remarkable courage, determination, and grace, inspiring family, friends, teachers, caregivers, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
While words cannot express the sorrow felt by those who loved him, they can celebrate the extraordinary life he lived. Sebastian taught us the meaning of courage, perseverance, hope, and unconditional love. His legacy is not defined by his illness, but by the strength with which he lived, the love he shared, the joy he spread, and the lives he touched.
Sebastian is survived by his loving parents Tammy and Andrew; brothers, Gavan and Roman. They will carry his memory in their hearts every day. Though they grieve his passing, they find comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, free from pain, and embraced by God’s eternal love.
As we remember Sebastian Alexander Serpa, we celebrate a beautiful life that, while brief, was filled with purpose, love, and inspiration. His smile, his bravery, and his gentle spirit will never be forgotten.
