Born in East Liverpool, Ohio on March 6, 1948, she was the eldest daughter of the late Robert and Genevieve (Grimm) Culp. Susan was a 1966 graduate of Wellsville High School in Ohio. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in family counseling from Penn State University in 1997 and a Master’s Degree in family studies from Liberty University in 2007.
Susan married Dennis Stauffer on June 15th, 1969, at the Lemont Presbyterian Church. They enjoyed 48 years of marriage together before Dennis’ passing in 2016.
Susan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Artistically gifted, she enjoyed many creative endeavors such as jewelry making, painting, and collecting antiques - notably vintage handbags, glassware, and floral trays. She was a regular volunteer at her children’s school, Belleville Mennonite School, and taught weekly art classes for the students there. As a mother, she instilled in her children a love of reading, a talent for baking and cooking cherished family recipes, and the importance of spending quality time with loved ones through regular visits with grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Many memories were made at family reunions, the Fourth of July Fireworks, trips to Disney World and time spent at the beach. Susan loved visiting the Sale Barn in Belleville, PA on Wednesdays to enjoy bargain hunting for antiques, which she creatively filled her home with over the years. She also loved shopping for fun presents for her family to be shared during birthdays and holidays. A devoted grandmother, Susan believed tea parties were best enjoyed under the light of the moon and that children’s giftedness blossoms when they are free to make messes, use their imagination, and explore.
Susan is survived by her children: her son, Jonathan Stauffer, and his wife, Nicole, of Colora, Maryland; and two daughters, Jenna Brooks and her husband, John, of Stafford, Virginia, and Hilary Gordon and her husband, Mark, of San Francisco, California. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Victoria Long and her husband, Jacob, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Thomas Stauffer, of Newark, Delaware; Jack Brooks, of Los Angeles, California; and Jordan Brooks, of Stafford, Virginia. She is further survived by her siblings, Tom Culp, Mary Odem, Sara Leschinsky, and Kathie Harter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her beloved brother, Robert Culp.
