

William Eugene Hazelwood, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, in Woodbridge, Virginia. Born on July 17, 1935, in Nashville, Tennessee and a graduate from Cumberland High School. William lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and the values he held dear.
William proudly served in the United States Air Force for 26 years, retiring with honor after a distinguished career. His time in the military was a source of great pride for him, and he often shared stories of his service with those around him.
Known affectionately as Eugene by many who knew him, he was a devoted husband to his late wife, Anne J. (Burns) Hazelwood. Their bond was one of deep love and mutual respect. Eugene’s caring nature extended beyond his family to his beloved dogs and the simple joys of life, such as watching Westerns on television. He was a man who taught by example, embodying the belief that "nice guys do exist."
Eugene is survived by his son, William E. Hazelwood Jr.; his daughter, Eugenia A. Schwemmer; and his sisters Cayce (Danny) Ferrell and Margaret (Richard) Hayes. He also leaves behind a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will carry forward the values he instilled in them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Hazelwood and Margaret Louise (Bess) Hazelwood; his wife Anne; and his sister Wanda (Charles) Dye. Eugene’s memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his legacy of kindness and devotion bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
A Memorial Service will be held on July 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Cemetery 4300 Beach Blvd. Jacksonville, Florida.
