Clara Marie Cherry Jones passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2019. She was born on June 5, 1938 in Ahoskie, North Carolina. Clara was the youngest of eight children born to Nonie Askew and Louis Cherry and was affectionately known as “Sissy”. At a very young age, Clara joined Conconary Baptist Church where she was baptized and upon graduating from C.G. White High School, she joined four (4) of her siblings in Stamford, CT where she met and married Arnold Jones Sr. To their union they added two sons, Arnold Jones Jr. and Todd Lowell Jones. Clara worked as an assembly line and quality assurance technician at Clairol, a consumer hair care manufacturer in Stamford for many years, prior to joining her sister Frances and brother-in-law Joseph, in relocating to Chesapeake, VA where their brother Whit was currently residing. During her time in Chesapeake, Clara gained employment in the Custodial Services department for the Suffolk school system and worked there a few years before returning to Connecticut to be closer to her sons. Upon her return she held several positions as a private nurse’s aid as well as a pillar of strength in caring for her youngest son through his terminal illness. Throughout her life she always sought refuge in church and joined Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where she could walk across the street to attend. Although early onset dementia waned on her memory and she faced many challenges throughout her lifetime, what consistently remained was her beautiful smile. Clara is predeceased by her sons, Arnold Jr. and Todd; parents Nonie & Louis, siblings Glenwood, Whit, Vernon, Frances, McCoy & Louis Jr. Left to mourn her absence is her sister Mrs. Georgia Mitchell (Ahoskie, NC), daughter-in-law Michelle Jones (Stamford, CT), sister-in-law Margaret Cherry (NC) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Without a doubt, on September 16th she was welcomed with open arms in to a beautiful reunion in heaven. She will be missed but without question, she is home and all is good in her soul.
