Born in Manhattan, he was the son of Paul and Edith Freeman. An avid sports fan, he was a loyal supporter of the Giants, Yankees, and Knicks - he loved telling people that he saw the Giants play at the Polo Grounds as a child.
Alan was proud of his service in the Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in upstate New York and later served in the reserves.
A legend in the architectural glass business, Alan began his career at the age of 16 and worked in the industry until he was 94 years old. Founder of the CT Glass Show, he worked in sales at Royal Glass in New York and was the Sales & Operations Manager in East Haven, CT. He also worked as the Sales Manager for Solomon Korff in upstate New York and Connecticut, National Sales Manager for General Glass International (GGI) in New Rochelle, NY, Vice President and General Manager for Floral Glass in Cheshire, CT, Independent Manufacturer’s Representative for Oldcastle Building Envelope, and he ended his career back at GGI as a manufacturer’s representative. People throughout the industry reached out to him for his expertise and advice and he loved mentoring.
Alan believed strongly in giving back to his community. He was a dedicated volunteer, board member, and supporter of the Stamford JCC and United Jewish Federation, and was one of the longest serving board members at Schoke Jewish Family Service. He was also a dedicated Hadassah supporter, an Associates Vice President, and he and his wife Connie became members of the Society of Major Donors.
Alan will be missed greatly and will be remembered for his love of life, his sparkling smile, and his genuine empathy and kindness.
He is survived by his wife Connie Cirillo Freeman, his children Meryl Freeman, Ian Freeman and his wife Lori Friedman, Rachel Freeman Hudson, his grandson Noah Hudson, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
