

Ann Hagenbach, passed away on December 31, 2016 at Stamford Hospital, she was 87. She was born in Manhattan on Oct 7, 1929 to Matthew and Mary Yelavich, sister to Mary Montalto Matthews and Helen Colgan, wife of Edward C. Hagenbach for 44 years. She was very fond of her years as a fan of young Frank Sinatra, the Brooklyn Dodgers and dancing the Lindy. More than anything she thoroughly enjoyed the five years she spent living in Waterloo, Belgium with her family. The opportunity to travel throughout Europe and meet people changed her more than she could imagine. Sailing on the QE II with her husband had been another highlight. After raising her children she returned to school at age 52 and received her degree in early childhood education. Ann worked as an elementary teacher's assistant in Stamford public schools at Ryle School, Hart School and Toquam School for 20 years. She loved to teach children. Ann also served as president of the Teacher's assistant union for 8 years and was instrumental in teacher's assistants receiving a pension upon retirement, even though she would never receive this benefit herself. Ann taught CCD at Holy Spirit church for 10 years and served on the church council. Ann enjoyed attending NY theater with the Women's Guild from Holy Spirit Church. She was an avid gardener and loved to watch the activity around her backyard koi pond. Ann had been a resident at Maplewood at Darien for the past three years
Ann was predeceased by her parents, her sister Mary and husband Ed. She leaves behind her sister Helen and her husband Richard Colgan, her son Eddie Hagenbach of Hartford, CT. Daughter Mary Cameron, her husband John Cameron, grandchildren Alicia, Carter & Rachel Cameron of Mount Pleasant, SC. Daughter Jacky Hagenbach and her partner Paula Krysa of Pine Beach, NJ and son, Michael Hagenbach and his wife Andrea Markovics Hagenbach, grandchildren Matthew and Mallory Hagenbach of Milford, CT. and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St. Stamford, CT 06905 on Wednesday January 4,2017 from 4-8pm. A funeral mass will be at Holy Spirit RC Church, 403 Scofieldtown Rd., Stamford, CT on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 10:30am. Interment to follow at Queen of Peace cemetery in Stamford.
