All the souls in heaven are rejoicing today for longtime Stamford resident Audrey Young who passed away peacefully April 23rd, 2011. Audrey was born February 16, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York to Vernon and Josephine Rucks. She grew up on St. Marks Avenue just doors away from the man who would become the love of her life, the late William Michael Young. They were married for 46 years. The couple first lived in Arkansas, then in Long Island, and finally settled in Stamford where they raised seven children. A devout Catholic and advocate for parochial education, Audrey's children attended catholic schools and 6 of them are graduates of Stamford Catholic High School. A loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Audrey enjoyed cooking, traveling, and engaging in lively debates about current events and politics. Audrey loved to vacation with her family on Long Beach Island, New Jersey. With a real flair for interior design and decorating, her great joy was to find a unique piece and strike a great bargain. She was often seen in Home Goods, Lord & Taylor, Starbucks and her favorite restaurant, La Fontonella. Audrey worked for many years as a phone receptionist in Stamford. She touched many lives with her feisty sense of humor, talkative nature and strong opinions. Audrey will long be remembered and admired by all. Audrey is survived by four daughters, Mary Jayne Ford of Wilton Connecticut, Jeannine Clarke and husband Thomas Clarke of Hopkinton, Massachusetts, Jill Young and husband Michael McNeil of Easton, Connecticut and Jacqueline Young of Wilton, Connecticut and three sons, Eugene Young and wife Kelly Mack Young of La Canada, CA, William Young Jr. and wife Shelby Young of Hope, Idaho and Robert Young. Audrey is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She never forgot anyone’s birthday and we will never forget her. Family and friends will pay tribute to this extraordinary woman at a memorial mass Friday April 29th, 2011 at 10:30AM, at Holy Spirit Church, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford, CT 06903.
